Lessons From The Wise Ones

Dealing with psoriasis is always difficult.  Today I thought I would compile posts that the Best Advocates in the Psoriasis Community give as lessons that they have learned in dealing with psoriasis.

Jaime Moy is a prime example of one of the best Advocates in the Psoriasis Community. Not only has Jaime been dealing with psoriasis but her son who is a teenager has had psoriasis the majority of his young life. She advocates not only for herself and all adults as well as being a staunch advocate for children suffering with psoriasis. Her top 5 list of advice to parents dealing with a child that has psoriasis is as follows:

1. Don't put your child in a bubble.

2. Pay attention to your mom (or dad) intuition.

3. You a not a helicopter, so don't hover.

4. Teach your child to advocate for herself.

5. Don't forget about you.

If you would like to read more about each of these please read more on Jaime's blog called A Spot of Hope at http://jaimelynmoy.wixsite.com/aspotofhope/single-post/2016/09/12/A-Spot-of-Sanity-for-Parents

Another prime example would be an Amazing advocate named Alisha Bridges. Alisha got involved in advocating after she wrote a Suicide Letter. The letter was talking about how Alisha was tired of hiding the fact she has psoriasis and coming out so to speak of the closet about her condition. If she could only see down the road what doors that letter would open and how she would become such an incredible person speaking about her experience with psoriasis. Her top list of advice goes as follows:

1.  Find a online psoriasis support group. www.Talkpsoriasis.com changed my life. It’s a place for people living with psoriasis to share their deepest darkest and embarrassing concerns about psoriasis without stigma or shame. It’s the first place I found 8 years ago when I was looking for others like me. 2. Sign up for a mentor through the National Psoriasis Foundation. A mentor is a friend you can talk to about all things psoriasis. They are the person who will be in your corner as a shoulder to lean on during a difficult time with your disease.

The final list of advice comes from Tami Seretti who is not only an Incredible advocate but someone who is an important member of my psofamily. Tami has only been advocating for a short time but has already made a huge impact in the Psoriasis Community. Her top list of advice is as follows:

1. Know your disease; the better you understand the disease, the more confident you will be in controlling your symptoms.  2. Find a dermatologist who treats Psoriasis and is familiar with all forms of treatment. 3. Get involved. Find other people with Psoriatic Disease. Join a support group, a Facebook group, contact the NPF. Talking to other people who know exactly how you feel is invaluable. You’re never alone.

A huge thank you goes out to each of these women for contributing as well as to Nuvothera the maker of Prosoria. If you want more information about their product please go to www.prosoria.com. As always thank you for reading and please keep coming back to read more.
